Playing it safe at Christmas doesn't have to be boring …

Christmas Light Safety

If not installed correctly, indoor lighting has the potential to be extremely dangerous. During the festive period, statistics show that the chance of dying in an accidental house fire rises by a dramatic 50%, with low quality and poorly installed Christmas lights often to blame.

For many people during the busy and expensive Christmas period, the temptation to dig out an old set of fairy lights for the tree is obvious. Yet this is not only potentially dangerous, but totally unnecessary. The range of affordable safe lighting systems for any occasion is vast and you don't have to sacrifice flair for safety. Never try and repair a broken set of Christmas lights, dispose of them thoughtfully.

Mains Indoor Fairy lights Can Be Dangerous

Older 240v 'mains' fairy lights are potential killers. Not only does your family run the risk of electrocution if they become damaged but when bulbs blow (as they often do) with increased voltage the others become very hot. It is therefore important to change blown bulbs very quickly but always with the power off. We would strongly urge you never to place mains fairy lights (that get hot) onto a Christmas tree. As the tree dries out over the festive period it becomes a potential fire hazard with 'hot' lights. "For the safety of my family I would never use mains fairy lights in my home". Installing Outdoor Lighting

When it comes to installing outdoor lighting, safety should be taken very seriously indeed. If you are not sure get someone qualified to do it for you. Working on ladders or working at a height is something most of us are not used to. Make sure you have a stable means of support and have someone to help. If you are determined to 'do it yourself' a hired access platform is a much safer alternative than weeks in hospital or worse!

Select lighting products that are specifically deigned for outdoors -such as our professional range.
