Safety
Ensuring that your Fairy Lights are safe, and that you are handling them safely, is clearly a top priority when using them. With us, you will only be getting safe, certified and professional-standard lights. Avoid cheap imitations, and make sure that you check lights that haven't been used in a while, for damage, before use.
Safe Condition
If a string of fairy lights has exposed wires then do not try to fix them by sealing it up, even with electrician's tape. Fairy lights with exposed or frayed wires need to be replaced. The IP44 cable and double epoxy sealed bulbs are especially weather resistant and give your lights a high degree of protection, but don't overlook basic safety checks before plugging in.
Application Safety
First and foremost, ensure that you only use outdoor lights outdoors and indoor lights inside. This sounds quite obvious, but it is very important. Confusing the two could create a potential fire hazard. Also, don't connect too many strands of fairy lights to one plug socket. We have two connectable fairy light products that solve this problem, safely distributing the power from just one socket to multiple sets.
Avoid 'Hot' Bulbs near Fabrics & Christmas Trees.
Traditional fairy lights with incandescent bulbs generate heat and should never be used around fabrics or furniture. Cheap fairy lights tend to be incandescent bulbs, and putting them on a real Christmas tree, which becomes dry over the holiday season, can be a recipe for disaster. LED fairy lights are the solution for pretty decorations and safe Christmas tree lighting in your home. LEDs never get hot and always stay cool, which is a great safety feature.
Low Voltage Benefits
Also at Lights4fun we strongly recommend that you use only low voltage or battery fairy lights for use where they could be in contact with your family and in particular children or pets. Do not risk electric shock with mains products inside your home.
Installation
When putting fairy lights up - particularly outdoors - you should take a few measures to ensure your own safety. Work with a friend that can hold ladders or get help in the event of an emergency, and never stand on the top step of a ladder or try to apply lights to an area that you can not comfortably reach. All our outdoor fairy lights are designed to withstand the worst of the British weather - which we all know can be bad. So if decorating for Christmas, why not take advantage of warmer weather and put them up early? You can switch them on when required with the confidence they will work.
Fused Bulb Technology
Fused bulb technology - included with all of our outdoor professional fairy lights - makes them extra safe and extra reliable. Unlike cheaper Christmas lights, if a bulb in your circuit blows, it ensures that all the other bulbs stay on. This is a brilliant safety feature not only because it ensures that one faulty bulb cannot affect the rest of the display, but because you don't have to spend time searching through the bulbs to find the dead one if they are in a hard-to-reach location outdoors. All Lights4fun fairy lights have non replaceable very long life bulbs, so you will never have to change a bulb again.
Maintaining Fairy Lights
Our fairy lights are maintenance free. No bulbs to change. If you look after them, they will last you a very long time. Most damage to fairy lights is done unintentionally when they are being demounted - even by professionals. When Christmas, the wedding or the party is over, most people want to take them down as quickly as possible. Avoid 'tugging' at the light strings to try and free them if caught - you are likely to damage the wiring. Also avoid dropping them from ladder heights onto the floor. Take great care with ladders and get a friend to hold them securely for you. Store them in the box provided; it is designed to protect your fairy lights.
Try not to run your lights 24/7. If you want your lights to come on or go off at a certain time each day, you can use a timer. These can allow you to set your lights to come on for a pre-determined period of time and can be fitted as a part of your pre-existing circuit. If using a timer outdoors, always ensure it is weather protected and is suitable for outdoor use.
