Rope lights make simple yet effective architectural illumination, perfect for roof lines and exterior walls. Message writing is always popular, thanks to the flex in the plastic tube. Simply unfurl the rope light to the desired letters and attach it to a board (black painted boards look best) with rope light mounting clips. LED rope lights provide increased life span, and numerous safety benefits. They will consume much less energy and never get hot. This means if you wish to have a break between rope light words - simply wrap some 'duct tape' to give you dark sections. We would not advise adding tape to traditional rope lights which generate heat.

Patterns and shapes also make a striking display, especially for theme parties or occasions. Candles are particularly simple designs to make for the Christmas period, whilst those feeling ambitious may wish to go for a floral motif, working especially well with two or more interweaving colours. For a really glitzy effect, think about using rope lights to accentuate edges of steps, lining a staircase with rope light running flush with each step adds stylish showbiz glamour, though be careful to make it secure and not become a tripping hazard.
