Safety Playing Safe at Christmas
Millions of us prefer to have a real Christmas tree every year, despite the natural needle drop. Most householders keep their trees dressed for 2 to 3 weeks over the Christmas period.
Take a real Christmas tree, dry it out in a modern centrally heated house for two to three weeks. Add old fashioned 'pointy' fairy lights that can get really hot and you have a recipe for disaster. A dry Christmas tree takes only 5 seconds to fully ignite and less than 30 seconds to 'flash over' to the rest of the room. Not convinced please click here to see the attached video. (Embed video)
At Lights4fun we would strongly recommend:
1. Keep older incandescent Christmas lights away from fabrics and furnishings, and real Christmas trees.
2. Use only Low voltage fairy lights in your home to protect yourself and your loved ones from the risk of electric shock.
3. Use only LED low voltage fairy lights on your real Christmas tree
Why do LEDs stay cool to the touch?
Normal bulbs (including traditional Christmas lights) have a filament through which electricity passes. As the filament heats up it emits light but sadly a huge amount of the energy is wasted as heat.
LEDs are a semi conductor (electronic circuit) and up to 98% of the energy used generates light. Very little energy is wasted.
