The answer is a resounding YES. LED Christmas lights use up to 90% less electricity than conventional incandescent bulbs. LED fairy lights are more reliable (as there is no filament to break), they generate virtually no heat and they will last up to ten times as long as traditional fairy lights.

For example from our outdoor connectable LED Christmas light range, it is possible to connect 800 White LED fairy lights (8 sets) and still use only the same amount of electricity as one standard 60 watt domestic light bulb. Money Saving Case Study- Harrogate Town Council

Harrogate illuminates the trees on the famous 'Stray' (a parkland surrounding the town) for 6 months of the year. The lights are switched on every evening from October to March. In 2007 Harrogate town council decided to replace all its incandescent bulbs with LEDs and the lights4fun connectable products were selected.

Harrogate Council estimate they have saved so much money in energy costs in the six months of operation that the lights have already paid for themselves. In 2008 they have now ordered more lights for other areas of the town.

So are solar fairy lights any good? The new 2008 generation of solar powered fairy lights are much improved and we can now sell them with confidence. They will never be as bright as their mains electric cousins and therefore will be an accessory to your main display. Point the hand sized solar panel towards the sun, switch them on, and after a full days charge they will glow into life. The automatic daylight sensor controls the lights and expect 8 to 10 hours illumination per night from a full days charge (less in the UK winter).
