Top Lighting Tips
Here are some top Christmas Lighting Tips from our most experienced designers:
Trees - String Lights are best
Whether you choose LED or traditional string lights it doesn't matter. These are the best lights for trees. Start with the trunk and wrap the lights 'Hollywood' style around the trunk working your way up to the branches. Then for the branches; lay the string lights into the tree in a swirl going up, rather like an ice cream. They look superb. Select products with green or black cables so they do not show during the day.
Hedges & Bushes Net Lights are a quick solution
A net light can be thrown over a bush to give an immediate symmetrical pattern of light with hardly any arranging. Simple plug in and enjoy. Select green cabled Net Lights that will not show during the day. For a hedge use larger connectible net lights 3m x 2m for instant dramatic effects.
Put outdoor Christmas lights up in October half term
All our outdoor products are very robust and designed for permanent or extended outdoor use so why not put them up when it is warm and dry and then just switch them on nearer Christmas. Why wait for the cold weather when your hands struggle to grip and the ladders are slippery and dangerous? Editors top tip get someone else to do it!
Use LED tea lights in a pumpkin for Halloween.
Small kids and candles are a recipe for disaster. Place an LED tea light in the pumpkin for exactly the same effect as a candle, but no danger to your little Halloween monster.
Short of Lights Less is more.
Dont be tempted to spread your Christmas lights thinly over too large an area Dress one area of your home or garden (a tree for example) in detail to create an eye catching attraction. You can always add to it next year.
