Autumn

5 ways to get your home autumn ready

Written by: Emily Rayner

The nights are drawing in and the temperature has dropped, my favourite season is in full swing! I love everything about autumn, from the crunchy leaves, to cosy candles and, of course, all the pumpkins. One of my favourite ways to embrace the cosy season is by giving my home an autumnal makeover to create a warm and inviting space for me to enjoy throughout the season. Below are my top tips for creating a snug haven at home this autumn.

1. Focus on the fireplace

The focal point of every home during the colder months has to be the living room, and within that, the fireplace. Whether you have a traditional mantelpiece or a woodburner, adding autumn decorations is the perfect way to create a cosy display for the season. Start with autumnal foliage, weaving a garland along your mantel, and then introduce a soft glow by entwining micro lights within the leaves. The finishing touch, and must-have for this time of year, is a light up pumpkin! They're easy to style in any room, but is perfect next to the fireplace while you're snuggled up on an evening to add an extra cosy ambiance.

2. Cosy up!

Autumn sees the return of all the best things...dressing gowns, warm slippers and plenty of fluffy blankets! After a long summer of being banished to the wardrobe, it's time to get them back out and snuggle on down. Transform any room by introducing soft furnishings in rich seaonal colours to add texture and warmth to your home. Think cushions and throws in burnt oranges or deep plums to add an autumnal touch that will keep you feeling cosy, even when it's chilly.

3. Soft lighting

You can't beat the gentle flicker of candlelight on dark evenings. For an easy alternative to real candles, flameless candles will fill your space with a soft seasonal glow and are completely safe around pets and little hands. I can't get enough of our TruGlow® candles, they're so realistic, have a handy timer, and the battery life is SO long! I also love seasonal motifs, whether you want to go all out pumpkin decor, or something a little more subtle, fairy lights with a decorative cap will transform any space.

4. Pumpkin spice everything!

Our favourite treat is back… that’s right, pumpkin spice lattes have arrived. As the coffee shops signal the start of a new season, bring the pumpkin scent into your home too. Diffusers at the ready, make pumpkin spice your scent for the season, it'll instantly fill your room with an autumnal aroma that you’ll want to use all year round - and I do (no judgement please!)

5. Set the table

The dining table is a really important part of the home, as we gather around with family and friends to share meals, celebrate moments and make cherished memories. We all create a festive table display for Christmas, but autumnal dining is becoming more popular too! Glass pumpkins are my top pick for any display, creating a warm and sparkly centrepiece for your table. Pair with classic ivory candles, and finish with natural touches, foliage or pinecones, and napkins in seasonal colours. All that's left to do is invite everyone round, and enjoy!
