The venue is organised, you've arranged the caterers, and no it's time for the decorations and lighting arrangements. But what is the best kind of lighting for special occasions? Take a look at our inspiration guides for ideas on how to create the perfect atmosphere for your special occasion.
Planning your layout and distances is hugely important. Take the time to measure pillar thickness, wall lengths and number of available sockets. The more information you have, the easier you'll find it is to select an appropriate product. We only recommend low voltage for indoor use - this will ensure your guests' safety. A low-voltage fairy light is much lighter than a mains powered version, due to cable thickness. You can benefit from clear cable with low voltage, thus enabling a much more discreet display and more suited to marquee functions. And the purchase cost for you is greatly reduced with low voltage lighting.
We British are obsessed with al fresco entertaining, but the British summers mean we need to hold our festivities under a large tent! Marquees are responsible for a large proportion of commercial connectable lighting sales for us and we've a host of colours and styles of lights that can be easily adapted for your entertaining and special occasion lighting. If you are running on a generator we strongly advise that you establish exactly how much power will be used by your suppliers on the evening. Usually it's the ovens and traditional marquee up lighters that use the most power. With LEDs you'll find you can illuminate your marquee with as little power as a 100-watt bulb.
Go LED all the way, it just makes sense. Connectable lights require only one socket, and LEDs use minimal power, which is great to know if you are using a generator. Think about ambient lighting for bar areas, brighter lighting for the dance floor and subtle lighting for the dining tables. LED battery fairy lights add the finishing touches to marquee table decorations. Finally plan your power carefully taking into account the amount of watts and amps you have available for the whole marquee.
Depending on the shape of your marquee, most structures will have points from where you can hang your string lights across the ceiling or run around the outside of the frame. A low-voltage curtain light is perfect due to its weight, ease of use and competitive price. Simply hang from a wire and you've got an instant display.
If you plan to use lighting for commercial purposes and you're looking to invest in a sturdy product then we would only recommend you use our mains powered connectable lighting for outside the marquee. Comprising of a full rubber cable and ultra strong resin caps this range, Connection Type C, is designed to be handled on a regular basis and rolled up after use. The only product we would not recommend for this application would be a rope light reel or connectable rope light as these should not be moved once installed.
The Lights4fun connectable systems will enable you to keep trailing wires to a minimum and safety paramount. Most events tend to feature lighting indoors and we would always recommend a 24-volt system. This Lights4fun system ticks all the health and safety boxes and can be used safely around guests and decorations at your venue.
