Create Your Own Easter Picnic

As the days grow longer and the flowers begin to bloom, seasonal celebrations move outdoors, and there’s no better excuse for a treat-filled picnic than the Easter weekend. The arrival of springtime invites us to slow down and savour simple pleasures in the fresh air, and with a few thoughtful touches your garden can become a wonderful spot to gather friends and family for a relaxed Easter afternoon.

Set the Scene

Any corner of the garden can be transformed into the perfect picnic setting with a little imagination, some soft furnishings, and a bit of sparkle. Start by choosing a flat, sun-dappled spot, like a patch of lawn beneath the boughs of a tree. A simple picnic blanket or repurposed throw makes a base that can then be elevated with scatter cushions and pillows in muted Easter tones. Additional blankets bring added comfort to the gathering, whilst a floral Easter egg wreath hung from a low branch provides the scene with a little height.

Springtime Sparkle

As the afternoon drifts into evening, soft lighting brings a magical glow to the gathering. Outdoor garden lanterns in galvanised zinc or white metal look beautiful dotted around the picnic space, with the gentle flicker of LED candlelight creating a warm, welcoming ambience. For an extra bit of Easter charm, try placing light-up confetti glass egg decorations amongst serving dishes and plates. Delicate ivy-leaf garlands dotted with tiny eggs can then be draped over cushions or woven along branches, adding a subtle twinkle and a splash of seasonal colour.

Dreamy Décor

Fresh flowers are the simplest way to celebrate the springtime. Small, mismatched glass vases filled with delicate blooms can be dotted around the scene, whilst stoneware pitchers brimming with gypsophila add a rustic, cottage-garden feel. For additional surfaces for sweet treats and drinks, repurpose a couple of vintage apple crates: upturned, they make the most characterful little side tables for any garden gathering.

Easter Treats

Now that the scene is set, it’s time for the treats! For a garden picnic, finger food and easy-to-grab bites are called for. Homemade scones served with jam and cream are always a favourite, whilst freshly baked hot cross buns bring the classic, must-have Easter flavours. Arrange everything on simple plates and cake stands so guests can help themselves throughout the afternoon. And, of course, remember to add plenty of chocolate.

However you choose to celebrate, an Easter picnic is all about savouring the fresh beginnings that spring brings. With a few decorative touches and some delicious treats, your garden can become the perfect setting for a relaxed seasonal gathering. Lay out the blankets, bring out the baking, and enjoy the sunshine. Everybunny’s invited!
