It’s simply not possible to name everything we love about the cosy season—but we know that food ranks extremely high on the list. From bubbling casseroles to pumpkin pies—from warm apple cider to good old fashioned Sunday roasts—every fall feast deserves a little fanfare. This dining style guide is your shortcut to elevated autumn dining.
As with autumn fashion, fall dining is all about layers. Start by picking out your table linen: for this season, we love natural fabrics in muted tones. Think sage greens, or calming taupe. Add napkins in contrasting or matching shades, and then start thinking about your foliage. A bushy garland running down the centre of a table instantly elevates any evening meal, whilst a rustic vase teamed with dried flowers or golden wheat creates a beautiful, low-effort centrepiece for your gathering. To finish the look, add sparkling battery powered micro lights.
Continue the calming colour scheme with your crockery. We’re loving simple stoneware this year: natural, neutral, and endlessly restyle-able. Add your napkins, cutlery, and then get creative with ribbons and foraged treasures like pinecones to create a bespoke place setting for every diner. Add a miniature light up pumpkin or an LED tea light to bring a little glow to your plates, and finish with a craft paper name tag to help your guests find their seats.
Once the table is laid, it’s time to turn down the lights and turn up the autumn ambience. LED taper candles in simple stoneware holders provide some height, whilst clusters of illuminated pumpkins in varying shapes, sizes and finishes bring a golden glow to your display. Ivory pillar candles—dotted between the foliage and fall decorations—complete the cosiness.
For an extra-memorable autumn dining table, consider getting crafty with foliage garlands, fairy lights, natural materials, and a little imagination. A chunky, foraged branch provides the perfect base for a suspended showstopper: simply wrap a pre-lit autumnal garland around the branch, secure with wire ties, and then suspend from beams or sturdy light fittings using ribbon, twine or wire. To bring even more magic, use invisible fishing wire to create a falling leaves effect over your tablescape. It’s like dining in an autumnal woodland wonderland… except you’re dry, and warm, and you don’t have to worry about the rainclouds.
Whether you’re cooking for one, two, or twelve, cosiness needn’t be confined to the fireplace. With a little candlelight, it’s so easy to add warmth to any table, dining nook or kitchen island this autumn. Now—did someone mention apple crumble?
