Enjoy a slow and soothing Springtime with cups of morning tea in the fresh air and long afternoons spent relaxing, reading books and pottering in the garden as we begin to venture outside, spending moments together in the garden again. As blooms begin to appear, April is the perfect time to spend long weekends getting your garden summer ready, and we have popped together a simple checklist of garden to dos and some helpful tips for along the way.
Welcome in the spring days and give your garden a little refresh with the turn of the new season. April showers, but sunny days too, making the perfect conditions for a garden full of spring blooms. Begin your garden transformation with a fresh Spring clean; removing unwanted weeds, treating your lawn and having a neaten up of any remaining signs of winter. At this time of year, opt for sowing hardy annuals, herbs and wild flowers that will see you through the whole summer season and keep your garden space looking fresh and vibrant.
Refresh your potting beds and baskets for the new season by pulling up any winter bedding plants that have come to an end and replace with colourful spring bedding plants such as pansies or violas. As the sun begins to make more and more appearances, pots and containers, both inside and out, will need regular feeding and attention. As they gradually go through all the nutrients in the compost to make your flowers bloom, they will need regularly topping up to keep them thriving throughout the season. Keep the soil fed and watered, for happy plants that will bring so much life to your Spring/Summer garden.
Curate a space that makes your garden an extension of your home. Begin to bring the indoors out by incorporating restful colours of soft pastel into your outdoor décor with soft furnishings and pastel Tyvek lanterns. Simply hang your lanterns above from surrounding tree branches under direct sunlight, and finish with connectable white festoon lights swagged from pergola beams or around the perimeter of your summerhouse and watch as your garden is brought to life with a soft springtime glow. Similarly, bring elements of your garden into your home, as blooms become ready to chop, pop them in vases around your living space to bring a touch of nature inside too.
