Medieval Magic

The first step is incorporating plenty of pretty décor within your garden and creating a feast for the eyes, without compromising on function, so your family and friends can enjoy the day to the full.

Décor

There are many ways to decorate your outdoor space – not all of them have to be big. Just adding some stylish and thoughtful touches will bring the midsummer magic of a medieval core aesthetic to your garden.

  • A tent. If you have the space, putting up a rustic medieval tent will be the perfect centrepiece for your garden party. Plus, it provides a safe haven so the unpredictable British summer weather doesn’t ruin the fun.
  • Bunting. Nothing quite says joyful celebration like colourful bunting. Hang it from trees to add pops of colour from above, or use it to frame your tent to create visual interest. For an extra sparkle you can opt for pre lit bunting or wrap fairy lights/micro lights around an existing string of bunting.
  • Colour scheme. Embody summer throughout your space and decorate in spectacular sunset colours of oranges, pinks, and purples. Don’t be afraid to pair them with fun patterned fabrics to really bring your fantasy festival to life.
  • Fantastic flowers. Breathe life and nature into the scene by hanging floral wreaths, and dotting around garlands and vases of flowers. Why not use pre lit wreaths and garlands, so the florals continue to make an impact after the sun sets.
  • Magical music. Create a fully immersive experience by curating the perfect playlist of period style background music, so family and friends feel like they’ve been transported back in time to a fairy tale world.

Function

Don’t forget your medieval setting also needs to be practical, so your guests can enjoy all the wonderful activities you have planned. Why not try zoning your garden into distinct areas for feasting, resting, and games? This way everyone can get the most out of the experience, whether they just want to chill and chat the day away, or prove their skills in a set of fun games.

You can still pair function with style by using rustic wooden furniture like a long table and benches to give guests the feeling of being at a medieval banquet. Complete the scene with goblets and trenches, as well as centrepieces of candles, fruit, bread, and greenery. Everyone will be embraced in a sense of community as food is served in a rustic communal style.

To ensure everyone’s comfortable, scatter cushions on furniture and lay out blankets on the ground so everyone can choose where to gather.

Lovely Lanterns

There are so many options to choose from when it comes to garden lanterns. Why not use a combination of many different types to create the perfect cosy glow when the sun goes down?

Fabric hanging lanterns hung from tree branches are great for adding an element of whimsy to your garden and building on the medieval core aesthetic. They’ll add pops of colour during daylight hours and then bring a soft shine come nighttime. You can hang smaller pastel lanterns inside your tent to cast a gentle glow in the enclosed space.

If you want to use larger lanterns, simple black like our Albury, Canberra, and Brixham lanterns go with any theme and styling. They’ll bring a classic elegance and by setting them at ground level, you can frame pathways for guests so they don’t miss their step in the dark.

To really lean into the medieval festival feeling, use the informal, welcoming, rustic charm of wicker lanterns and outdoor candles throughout your garden. They can be set on tables or the ground to create different levels and heights, and really tie the whole scene together.

Shining Stake Lights

Our stake lights come in a variety of designs. By mixing and matching them, you can curate a garden of light with their nature inspired themes.

The starburst stake lights will create the illusion that you’ve grown flowers made of starlight. Meanwhile, the mini mushrooms spread fairy tale enchantment as they’re fit for the fairy folk to dance around. They’ll certainly add to the mystical setting you’re building.

Sparkling String Lights

Add a special sparkle to your summer nights with outdoor string lights. You can get really inventive with them, styling them all throughout your garden in different ways to get a truly mythical finish.

Festoon lights are a fantastic foundation. Their bright and bold glow will give everyone enough light to see by so the games don’t have to stop when the sun sets. Our vintage style festoons are especially great for adding some character to the space.

Winding fairy lights around trees is an easy way to introduce some sparkle to your garden – your guests will feel like they’re surrounded by stars. You can also drape micro garlands across furniture to add a playful touch. No to mention, micro lights create an enchanting twinkle when threaded through bushes and plants.

It’s isn’t difficult to bring the magic of a medieval festival to your garden. You can incorporate any of our tips to fit the space you have to work with. Family and friends will be delighted to join in the fantasy fun and games throughout those long summer afternoons and balmy midsummer nights.
