After a day of fun in the summer sun, it’s nice to have a little garden nook you can disappear to. Why not take some seasonal cues and create a folk-inspired fantasy hideaway? Whether you want to settle into your peaceful bubble to read your favourite book, or simply watch the sun set, the enchanting aesthetic will make you feel cosy and snug in your little corner of the garden. Here are some of our top tips for decorating your garden nook to embrace the magic of summer.
One sure fire way to create a winsome atmosphere is to drape string lights throughout the space to add soft sparkle. You could wrap a playful wilderness daisy garland around furniture and across blankets to add character to your fairy tale retreat.
One of the simplest ways to bring a spark of joy to your garden is to thread micro lights through foliage to create a mystical backdrop – almost as though your bushes, shrubs, and trees have been lit by stars.
To tie the scene together, hang vintage festoon lights from trees. This will add height and paint the branches with a beautiful glow.
Stake lights are great for creating a snug ambiance, due to casting light from ground level. Plus, there are so many fantastical designs out there, which you can use to bring an element of whimsy and fun into your garden.
Our hygge wicker stake lights allow you to incorporate rustic charm into your nook. Informal and warm, they’ll help create a cosy ambiance for you settle in under the stars and watch the world go by.
If you want to lean more into the wonder of nature for your hideaway, our starburst stake lights give the appearance of flowers. Popping a few of them around the perimeter of the area will give the impression that your nook is guarded by flowers made of light.
Mini mushroom stake lights will make a wonderful addition to the setting, if you want to go all out with the enchanted woodland aesthetic. They’re cute and quirky – it’s easy to picture the fairy folk playing around them. Just dot the stakes around the space to create your midsummer glade.
Watching candlelight flicker against the night sky, bathing your face in a warm glow, creates the perfect cosy bubble against the outside world. Just be sure to use outdoor candles – real wax melts in the heat of the sun, and it’s not ideal for handling surprise summer showers either (we are still in Britain after all).
Style your candles by grouping different sizes together and setting them on garden tables to create a point of visual interest, as well as creating levels of light. You can also place them on blankets ready for a cosy intimate date night picnic.
Add some extra style to your cosy corner with classic black lanterns. Scattering a couple around the space in different sizes will add depth, even if your nook is on the smaller size. Our Brixham and Canberra lanterns are brilliant in their simplicity while still having an air of elegance that will elevate the space.
Not to forget about the whimsy, hang fabric tassel solar lanterns from tree branches so they can sway in the summer breeze to add to the overall folk-style feeling your nook embodies. Plus, they bring an extra element of height to the scene.
It’s all well and good having a visually amazing space, but you need to actually be able to relax in it. The first step is to select seating – folding or hanging garden chairs are perfect as they’re easy to bring out in summer and then pack away for the colder months of the year.
The next thing to consider is a garden table – you want someplace to rest your stack of TBR books and your morning cuppa (or glass of lemonade if you want to cool down in the afternoon). Our hygge solar table is very versatile as it doubles as both a stylish table and light source, without you having to plug it in. Ideal for letting you read your book after the sun has gone down.
For extra comfort lay blankets on the ground to give you more seating options (especially if you don’t have a lot of room for furniture). You can enjoy a solo picnic lunch and watch the world go by.
There are many ways to take a little corner of your garden and transform it into your dream oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world. We hope you take inspiration from this article and adapt these tips into your own magical midsummer nook.
