Lampshade DIY

This beautiful lampshade display is quirky, full of personality, and super easy to craft – and with the shades being all thrifted
pieces, each display will be wonderfully unique! Follow the below steps or watch the video to create your own light-up lampshade scenes.

What you’ll need…

Vintage lampshades
Ribbon
Micro fairy lights

Step 1 - Source your lampshades

Source a selection of vintage lampshades in varying sizes and shapes – try thrift stores, charity shops, or second-hand markets to find quirky, unique pieces.

Step 2 - Add your ribbon

Begin by attaching a long length of ribbon to the top of your lampshade, knotting it on either side of the frame and tying securely. Choose a ribbon that complements the colour of the shade’s fabric – or go for something contrasting for a high-impact look.

Step 3 - Add the lights

Next, wrap a string of copper wire micro lights around the inner frame of the shade. Use the full height of the frame for an all-over sparkly glow. We used warm white lights for a soft, classic look, but you might opt for colourful bulbs for something really unique.

4. Secure the battery box

Secure the battery box of the lights to the bottom of the shade’s frame using a second length of ribbon.

5. Hang the lampshades

Hang the lampshades in clusters of mixed heights until the desired effect is achieved! We love this DIY decoration over an indoor party table, or even strung from tree branches outside in fine weather for a beautiful after-dark display.
