Ribbons & Bows - Candle DIY

Written by: Claire Sugden

Sometimes, it’s the smallest details that make the biggest impact. Ribbons and bows are one of the easiest ways to elevate LED candles into something truly special. Whether you’re decorating for a cosy night in, thinking of loved-up gifting, or simply adding a romantic touch to your home, a little length of ribbon can go a long way.

Tied with Love

One of the quickest ways to style LED candles is with a simple ribbon wrapped around a single battery powered pillar candle. A ribbon in silk instantly adds a touch of elegance, whilst lace and chiffon bring a soft, vintage feel to your decorating scheme. Either keep things minimal with a single ribbon tied in a neat bow, or layer textures using a contrasting ribbon at the base of the pillar. For an extra-romantic look, leave chiffon bows long and trailing – perfect for a small table accent, or something to add a little ambience to a dressing table or nightstand.

Dressed-up Holders

The candle holders themselves are another great opportunity for ribbon styling. Tying bows around a taper candle is an effective way to tie them into the rest of your Valentine’s Day décor, introducing colour, texture and a hint of luxury without overpowering the glow of the candle. If your holders are contemporary or minimalist, consider a block colour ribbon, or opt for oversized velvet bows paired with antique or thrifted holders.

Bundled Together

For a real statement piece in your décor, group LED pillar candles together and tie them as a bundle. Trios work especially well for this, especially when you mix heights – a small, a medium and a tall – to create visual interest. For a cohesive look, group candles in matching or tonal shades, or mix colours for something more eclectic. These candle bundles make a wonderful centrepiece to dining settings, and the crafting can be part of the fun! Add to your Galentine’s or Valentine’s evening agenda and encourage loved ones to create a bundle that speaks to their own personal tastes.

Decorative Details

Bows are also ideal for adding finishes touches to the rest of your décor. With any leftover ribbon, tie a loop around the neck of a vase of flowers and attach a hanging decoration to the bow, and position amongst your LED candles for extra sparkle. This idea works beautifully for wedding tablescapes or seasonal celebrations.

With just a spool of ribbon and a little imagination, LED candles can be transformed into something truly unique and special. Styling them together – as part of a craft night or dinner party with friends – turns decorating into a shared experience, creating something personal, thoughtful, and full of charm.
