Your Summer Picnic Checklist

Picnics are a great way to embrace the summer heatwave with some tasty snacks that keep you refreshed throughout the day. Perfect for creating a sweet alfresco lunch in your garden or for a quick dinner when you’re out and about, they’re a great fuss free option for enjoying some delicious food in the sun. Whether you want a fun activity for the summer holidays or simply want to elevate your every day living, here’s our top picnic styling tips and checklist to help you create some cherished summer memories.

Pick the Perfect Location

The first step in planning your picnic is to decide on the location. If you’ve got younger children or don’t want to stray too far from home, you can still create some summer memories in a warm and familiar setting by hosting your picnic in your own garden. If you’re heading out for the day, anywhere with a flat soft surface is ideal so you can lay out your food and drink and relax under the sun. Picnic tables and outdoor seating areas area also great options for those who prefer a traditional alfresco dining experience

Set the Scene

One of the best ways to create moments of joy at your picnic is by adding a cosy ambience. Fairy lights are a sweet and simple way to add a summer sparkle to your alfresco setting and are a great lightweight option to carry around in your bag. Outdoor candles are also a great way to add a summer glow to your picnic as they’re super safe to place on the ground and can be used around children and pets too! Dot your candles and lights around the edges of your picnic blanket for a soft summer shine as you dine on your food.

Bring Delicious Food and Drinks

It goes without saying that a picnic is only as good as the food and drinks in your hamper. Fresh sandwich, salads, bite sized nibbles and fresh fruit are always winners when packing your picnic. For drinks, we would suggest opting for something light and refreshing that’s going to keep you hydrated during the summer heat. Water is of course a great choice for staying cool but to add a fun summer twist, make some flavoured water by cutting up your favourite fresh fruits and adding it to some water to chill in the fridge overnight. We’d recommend lemon and lime, orange and blueberries, or strawberry, kiwi and lime to keep you refreshed throughout the day.
