Bringing Midsummer Magic To Your Garden

Written by: Millie Breakspeare

Summer always seems to cast a magical spell, breathing joy and fun into those long sunny days and balmy midsummer nights. Why not bring that sense of wonder and enchantment into your space to create your own storybook garden? Whether you want to host a medieval fantasy feast for guests or build your own secret hideaway nook in a long-forgotten corner, here are some of our favourite ways to introduce that sparkle of magic to your garden.

Fantastical Flowers

What better way to create a fairy tale garden than with the magic of nature? It’s easy enough to drape floral garlands across outdoor furniture and fences – plus if you choose artificial garlands, you can bring them out summer after summer. We’d recommend a wilderness daisy micro garland as it also adds a playful touch to the space. Why not hang a wreath while you’re at it? Not only will it bring a pop of colour, but it will add height to the scene and tie everything together.

You also don’t have to stick with literal flowers – you can incorporate blooms made of light with our flower stake lights. Family and friends will feel like they’ve truly stepped into a mythical land of glowing florals.

If you’re a budding gardener, it could be a great idea to plant night blooming plants. Once dusk settles, your garden will come to life – especially if you invite wildlife into the space with feeders and bird baths.

Enchanting Lanterns

Let your fantasy world glow by styling lanterns throughout your garden. Mix and match different types to bring depth and layers to the space, so you feel cocooned in a mystical bubble of golden light.

Hanging fabric solar lanterns from tree branches will add a touch of whimsy and fun, as the tassels flutter in the summer breeze and they paint the leaves with a warm glow after the sun sets.

For lighting at ground and dining level, using simple but elegant black lanterns can be a smart choice as they perfectly balance against the fairy tale aesthetic. Our Brixham and Albury lanterns don’t detract from the fun but instead bring a classic and delicate sense of style, which complements the overall setting, elevating it.

If you want to incorporate a rustic welcoming feeling for guests, hygge lanterns and table lamps are brilliant with their informal design. Dotting them on tables will invite everyone to relax and chat the night away.

Sparkling Stake Lights

Stake lights are a fantastic opportunity to get inventive. You can use them to line pathways, creating your own will o’ the wisp trail for friends to follow, or scatter them across your lawn to form a sea of light that acts as an enchanting centrepiece to your garden.

And let’s not forget that stake lights come in a variety of designs, some of which will bring a fantasy element to the space. Our mini mushroom stake lights are quirky and you can just imagine the fairy folk fluttering around them. Meanwhile, starburst stake lights will create the illusion that you’re growing flowers made of starlight. Combine them with our flower, bee, and butterfly stake lights to form your own fairy grove amongst the trees – ideal for housing a hidden nook where you can relax, away from the summer chaos.

Twinkling Fairy Lights

The clue’s in the name, fairy lights can add a magic sparkle to your garden when night falls. Threading micro lights through plants and bushes, or draping them across garden furniture will create the effect of fireflies zooming around the space, making it feel alive.

Alternatively, you can wrap string lights around trees, bringing a cosy twinkle to any garden retreat, adding a feeling of intimacy and romance for a date night picnic beneath the stars.

Whimsical Wonder

There are many different finishing touches you can add to your garden to transform it into a fairy tale world – they don’t have to be big, even small decorations can have a gorgeous effect.

Colour palette is a great example, you can go with any number of choices from golden sunsets to fairy pastels, to moonlight silvers and lilacs, to bright neons. You can also make use of existing garden features – highlight winding paths, arches, and hidden corners when decorating, as they already add a natural touch of whimsy to the scene.

Here are some smaller decorations you can bring into your garden to amplify the midsummer magic aesthetic:

  • Ceramics/statues of animals and mythical creatures
  • Crystal ornaments and windchimes
  • Vintage and antique décor
  • Reflective water features.

It’s pretty easy to bring midsummer magic into your garden. Just make sure to consider your own style and aesthetic when incorporating our tips into your space and you can’t go wrong.
